Fun and golf in Nassau

3 Votes

Nassau in The Bahamas offers a great combination of fun and golf.

The balmy Caribbean climate and seven hours of daily sunshine are the very reasons why Nassau offers great conditions for golfers. During the odd period of rain which seldom lasts, the island offers an average winter temperature of 70°c, providing lush green courses to enjoy throughout the year.

With direct flights from the UK, the island is home to two impressive 18-hole courses including the oldest club in The Bahamas. Originally opened in 1928, the Cable Beach Golf course completed its redesign in 2002 to add a network of lakes and waterways, providing a challenging experience across its 6,453-yard layout. Situated along a 1,000-foot stretch of sandy beach, the course features open fairways suitable for golfers of all skills.

For a flavour of true Bahamian hospitality visit the recently opened Sheraton Nassau Beach resort. Located within close proximity to the golf course, enjoy the spectacular ocean views of the Atlantic, waterscape or lush gardens from the resort’s 694 guestrooms and suites.

After a challenging game of golf, unwind in seven acres of remarkable grounds, complete with three freshwater pools with flowing waterfalls, oversized whirlpools and swim-up bar. Dive in the island’s clear turquoise waters with additional water sports activities including snorkelling and sailing.

As the sun sets, and the partying begins, enjoy the taste of the Caribbean with a diverse selection of restaurants and lounges available at the resort or in the area. For added glitz and glamour, place your bets at the resort’s neighbouring Crystal Palace Casino at the Wyndham resort. The 30,000 square foot complex offers Las Vegas style thrills whilst nestled in the beauty of The Bahamas, with state-of-the-art machines and professional gaming tables.

Nassau’s famous colonial history is renowned for its pirate legends, including the fearsome Blackbeard. Today other legends from the world of sport and entertainment are now recognised during the annual Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational Golf Tournament. The charity event is supported by numerous celebrities, including Cuba Gooding Jnr, Spike Lee, John McEnroe and Kid Rock. The annual charity tournament takes place at the stunning Ocean Club golf course.

Designed by renowned US golfer and winner of five championships, Tom Weiskopf, the spectacular 18-hole, par-72 course stretches over 7,100 yards. Consisting of impressive seaside green and tee settings, the meticulously groomed PGA course also has a convenient on-site pro shop and clubhouse.

Tee times can be reserved 60 days in advance; priority is given to members and guests of One&Only, so call ahead to ensure a worry-free golfing holiday in paradise. The One&Only Ocean Club is one of the islands most exclusive resorts with its understated elegance and pristine beach. Providing casual sophistication and direct access to the stunning shoreline, the 45-year-old resort has hosted an international mix of celebrities, politicians and royalty. Private villas line the course, including one owned by Michael Jordan himself.

For those who prefer to perfect a different swing, the resort has six Har-Tru tennis courts, with resident tennis professionals available who can organise special clinics, games and round robin tournaments. Indulge in the ultimate lavish experience in the resort’s incredible Mandara Spa – ‘a discreet sanctuary of calm and wellness’.

Its Balinese-style treatment villas provide traditional spa therapies using natural spices, fruits and minerals indigenous to The Bahamas, and applied through a seductive range of pampering rituals.
